Torque By Microsoft For Android

By on December 8, 2014

As you already know, Microsoft has been working on a very unique project named Garage for past few years. This project is all about developing apps and games for other platforms like Android and iOS. Definitely Microsoft is trying to learn ecosystems of other mobile operating systems in order to make its own platform better and more useable with the help of this strategy. Recently the company announced another app for a rising market place “wearable”.

This app named “Torque” is for Android smart watches, though the first version of Torque as released in October but many of the users requested some features in upcoming versions. Microsoft heard them and finally released the next version of Torque with most wanted features. This app allows users to search via their smart watch in a swift way, Android native feature of activating voice search by saying “Ok, Google” is quite useful but Torque is the next level.

Torque allows users to shake their Android smart watch in order to activate voice search. This app is available for all Android devices running Android version or later. Microsoft has tested this app on multiple smart watches including LG G Watch, Asus ZenWatch and Samsung Gear Live; Torque works absolutely fine on these devices but it still needs some work for Motorola Moto 360. Unbelievably Google is not much interested in making association with Microsoft but most of the Project Garage’s projects are about Android operating system.

The idea behind Project Garage (learning competitors’ product) is not relatively new but Microsoft has taken it to the peak. It clearly shows how serious Microsoft is to keep its own platform afloat in the market. On the other hand, Microsoft is not the only one playing without rules. Google has its own similar project that allows its employees to work on different but irrelevant projects in their spare time. This project is named “20 Percent” and Google has intentions to keep this alive for a long time.

Few months ago, Microsoft released an app for Android devices; that app was named “Next Lock Screen”. That app was the first experiment conducted in the Garage. As the name suggests, Next Lock Screen is a substitute of native Android lock screen that does not have lots of features and options. Next Lock Screen offers customizations and feature to modify the native lock screen of Android operating system. This app is available for free in Google Play Store but right now it supports only limited number of devices.

Right now, Microsoft is working on another amazing app for Android devices; this app named “Journey and Notes” will target travelers and explorers to experience their journey in a unique way by preserving their memories in a manageable way. This app will also allow people to share their experiences with other travelers as well as learning things from other people to stay out of trouble in foreign lands. Hopefully we’ll see more Microsoft apps in the future because Project Garage has done great so far.
