Ebola Care App

By on November 4, 2014

As you already know about Ebola virus and how it has been affecting the world for last couple of months. Ebola virus not only has affected thousands of lives in Africa but it is now moving toward America and Europe. According to official report of WHO, 10,041 cases of Ebola virus has recorded and it caused 4,922 deaths. Unfortunately, these are official reports and the actual numbers are much higher than that. Obviously software and app developing companies feel powerless in this matter because there is not much for them to do in this regard.

Luckily two brothers from South Africa thought out of the box and developed an app that can actually help a lot in this disastrous situation. This app named “Ebola Care App” can help health care workers to collect and manage data about Ebola patients. Ebola Care App also helps those workers in every affected region to prevent more virus spread. Users can collect data about patients, manage that data, share that data with proper authorities, locate staff with the help of this app, locate different resources, contact ambulance teams and also locate children who have been left by their parents affected by Ebola.

Currently Ebola Care App is only available for Android devices but developers are going to launch this app for iOS and other platforms too. Let’s talk about different features of this app one by one. Ebola Care App uses GPS to locate the location of different patients. Workers can take the photograph of patient and Ebola Care App sends that image and GPS coordinate to central server. If there is no internet access then Ebola Care App saves that data in storage and sends it when device gets internet access.

Ebola Care App shares that data with health care workers, border agents and researchers. App sends Google Docs links to the cloud and people can access that data when needed. Though Ebola Care App does lot of things but amazingly it is very easy to use and manage. Ebola Care App allows users to enter data about each patient, so health care workers can enter their name, contact information and other data so they can contact them when needed.

As Android phones are equipped with GPS, they can easily pinpoint the exact location of each patient. This feature makes the whole process easier; health care workers and researchers can easily find those patients. Though this app is made for Ebola patients but there is lot of potential and room for development for this idea.
